Previously recorded from the Poor Knights Islands in New Zealand and Victoria in Australia, this undescribed species of Trinchesia has distinctive corkscrew-like cerata and vivid scarlet markings.
Sand flounders camouflage perfectly with the sandy bottom. They remain still when approached, using their protective colouring and flat profile to avoid detection by predators.

During the summer spawning season male Demoiselles hug the rock, protecting their nest site and its silvery patch of eggs.
